Rory O’Doherty, Director of Provider Advisory at Talent Tech Labs, shares his thoughts:

“SmashFly is a well-liked CRM provider that has good market penetration and a solid product offering. They moved much of their development staff to Northern Ireland a few years ago in order to leverage access to more cost-effective talent. This is a smart acquisition for Symphony Talent because it will broaden their technology offering and capture an impressive roster of companies that SmashFly is already working with. At the same time, SmashFly will receive an injection of increased human and financial capital.

As with all mergers, it is important to keep in mind that these take time to fully roll-out. Certain roles tend to be duplicative, such as customer success and account management, and in turn these roles might be reduced. This could have a major impact on the level of service that existing clients currently enjoy. Talent acquisition leaders to be aware of this and communicate concerns to their account managers. Another area that could experience major change is in the product roadmap. Generally speaking, the roadmap that was previously agreed upon will take a backseat during integration and the combining of existing products into one cohesive offering. In addition, it is not uncommon for certain features and functionalities to get axed, so existing users should be vocal about the capabilities that are vital to their continued success with SmashFly.”
