Internal Recruiting Startup Twine Wins Wharton Startup Challenge

Startup Twine, created by Wharton MBA 2017 graduates Joseph Quan and Nikhil Srivastava, beat out 28 other semifinalists to win the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Entrepreneurship’s first “Startup Challenge.” Twine’s software uses algorithms with the goal of aiding companies in determining internal candidates to fill open positions in hopes of increasing employee retention and reducing the cost of new hires. Along with the credibility and prestige that comes with winning such an award, Twine’s creators earned a grand prize of $30,000. In addition, they will receive accounting, strategy, and legal services valued at $15,000. So far, Twine is working with the University of Pennsylvania and Nielson.

Lever Raises $30M For Effort To Transform Hiring

Applicant Tracking System Lever announced today that it has raised an additional $30 million in venture financing from Adams Street Partners, Matrix Partners and Scale Partners, bringing its total funding to $62 million. It could raise as much as $10 million more before officially closing the round. That gives Lever, which FORBES estimates has revenues above $20 million, the cash to do more R&D and to add new analytical functions to its software suite. Lever’s more than 1,300 customers include Netflix, KPMG, Lyft and Cirque du Soleil.

Google Enters the ATS Market With a Full-Featured Tool For Small and Mid-Sized Businesses

On the heels of its May announcement of a powerful job search tool — Google for Jobs — the company today publicly released an ATS designed for small- and mid-sized businesses. Google Hire integrates with its widely-used G Suite, enabling recruiters and hiring managers to conveniently filter applicants, capture their contact information, communicate with them, schedule interviews, and manage the process from a single location. Candidates will also be able to post job postings to Glassdoor, Indeed, Google for Jobs and other job boards.

Video Interviewing Platform HarQen Acquired

HarQen, a video based talent acquisition software provider has been acquired by one of it’s board members.Reports                       say the company will move to Brookfield, Wisconsin and double the staff.This is the first video interview platform that                       has been acquired. Video in the hiring process is gaining wide acceptance and would certainly benefit ATS vendors                       who don’t yet have it as a feature. A HarQen board member for seven years, Stuart Olsten will serve as the executive             chairman of the company.

PeopleGrove Raises $1.8M to Connect Students and Professionals to Mentors

PeopleGrove, a San Francisco-based startup behind an online mentorship platform for students and working professionals, has raised $1.8 million in a seed round led by Reach Capital. Other investors include Bisk Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Floodgate, GSV, Launch Capital, RiverPark Ventures and University Ventures. PeopleGrove has now raised $2.5 million total.

Side Raises $5.7 Million to Match Students with Companies for Short-Term Jobs

French startup Side raised another $5.7 million with Xavier Niel leading the round. As the name suggests, Side lets students make some money on the side by working for companies for a few days or weeks. It’s a marketplace that helps you scale your workforce for a product launch, peak season and more. Aglaé Ventures, Jacques-Antoine Granjon and others are also participating in today’s funding round, as well as existing investors Connect Ventures, Fly Ventures and TheFamily. Think about Side as a sort of “staffing-as-a-service” startup. It isn’t a typical job board or temp agency. It’s a marketplace of freelancers that you can hire for a specific task. It’s like being a Deliveroo driver, but for all sorts of jobs.

Canvas Looks to Take on TextRecruit Following its $1.7 Million Seed Round

Hot off TextRecruit’s recent $3 million raise, a new competitor has arisen. Indianapolis-based Canvas is the brainchild of former Cha Cha executive Aman Brar, and uses the advantages of text messaging to help recruiters connect with talent. Brar was also president of Apparatus before it was acquired by Virtusa for $34.2 million cash. Canvas works similar to messaging and email systems you’re probably already using on your desktop. The company also provides native apps for Android and iOS. Recruiters are given a unique 10-digit phone number they can use to start conversations with candidates. A universal phone number is an option as well.

This round of funding was led by Origin Ventures, with participation by SoftTech VC, Crosslink Capital and Y Combinator, bringing the total amount raised to $10.75 million.

Harver raised $8.1 million in a Series A funding, led by Insight Venture Partners to scale the adoption of its AI-powered pre-selection platform, TalentPitch. The TalentPitch platform is designed to replace the resume by integrating with a company’s existing HR processes and systems, and applying predictive analytics to improve the recruitment process.
