UK-Based Job Today Raises $16M

Accel-backed mobile-first jobs app Job Today has pulled in another $16M — an expansion to its November 2016 $20M Series B round. It raised a $10M Series A in January of the same year. The 2015 founded startup offers a mobile app for job seekers that does away with the need for a CV.Instead  job seekers create a profile in the app and can apply to relevant jobs. Employers can then triage potential applicants via the app and chat to any they like the look of via its messaging platform.

PROCUREMENT SOFTWARE FIRM BUYS VMS PROVIDER DCR WORKFORCE

Procurement software maker Coupa Software (NASD: COUP) announced Monday it acquired DCR Workforce, a provider of a vendor management system for managing contingent workforces. Coupa reported it paid $25 million upfront for the company with an earnout potential, according to a conference call with analysts.

Monster Teases New “Studios” Mobile App

According to ERE’s sources, startup VideoMyJob partnered with Monster to provide some, if not all of the app’s functionality. A quick look at some of the features reveal a lot of similarities.

For instance, Monster Studios touts a “teleprompter feature to easily produce videos,” which is something VideoMyJob offers. Additionally, the ability to edit videos and boost them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter is something VideoMyJob offers as well.

Merlin Launches In New York City Metro Area to Help Hourly Workers Find The Best Job Opportunities

Merlin, a jobs platform exclusively for hourly workers, launched today in the New York City metro area.

Candidates on Merlin forgo traditional resumes or cover letters for a user profile that highlights their experience, personality, and skills. From there, candidates are matched to opportunities aligned with their qualifications and closest to their home. Merlin uses a matching algorithm to connect qualified candidates with hiring employers in less than a day. The app is available for job seekers and recruiters on Android and iOS devices.

Merlin has secured $24 million in funding from leading partners including General Catalyst, Firstmark, FJ Labs and Uncork, among others. The company plans to expand its offering to other major U.S. cities in the coming months.

Vervoe today announced the release of AI-powered skills testing that automatically recommends the best candidates based on performance, saving time and, more importantly, letting the real talent shine through sooner.

The newly released machine learning algorithms, which boasts an 83 percent accuracy rate in predicting top performers across all job types, automatically provides employers with an immediate score and ranks any number of candidates purely based on their performance of relevant tasks.

Vervoe also plans to introduce a bias detecting feature in the coming months, showing employers which biases they appear to be exhibiting based on their selection criteria.
